Worship with Radical Welcome Begins
Sunday, October 1, 2017, 9:30AM, Higher Art Gallery, 126 Union St.
You have spoken, asking for worship. We are listening.
Join us for worship with a progressive, contemporary approach...
~ to build community that supports our transformational work in the world
~ for soul care, to be inspired and nurtured, a place to laugh and cry
~ in a safe place for all who might feel vulnerable
~ to listen for the call of the Holy, the voice of the Still Speaking God
~ to contemplate what is most important to do with my unique life
Higher Art Gallery will be our worship home. Owner, Shanny Brooke, created a
beautiful setting for compelling art and graciously welcomed us into the space.
(www.higherartgallery.com) Her mission is simple, "Creating new opportunities for
working artistis, encouraging diverse points of view by presenting our community with
new perspectives and learning opportunities." We hope to be part of her mission, "by
presenting our community with new perspectives." There is free parking behind the gallery
and an entrance off the parking lot.
Part of building community is gathering at 9:15 to create the space. We will set up
chairs, hang the banners, prepare Communion and refreshments, etc. As you are able
to help, please join us then.
At 9:30 we will focus on the sacred among us with word and music, prayer and silence,
listening and response. We will share Communion bread and the cup each week, a ritual reminder that we are
connected in gratitude to creation and each other and the one we call God. We will listen to ancient and modern voices, reflect on what is said with word and in silence. We will explore ways to respond with action locally or globally.
As we go into the world to serve at around 10:30, we will leave the space as we found it for Shanny and Higher Art.
Children of all ages are welcome. Color books, crayons, pencil and paper are available as desired.
Please note: there is no nursery or separated children's gathering at this time.
An offering to support our ministries and the work of social justice in our community and the world
will be received each week.
Wonder about attire? It's an informal gathering, so come as you are, comfy, casual.
Our focus for the month of October will be on creation and environmental justice.
Ways to be involved:
Join us to create the space at 9:15am
Bring refreshments - something simple and nutritious to eat and drink that compel us to mingle for a minute
Prepare gluten free bread for Communion
Suggest musicians in the community who might serve us one week
Be a reader during the service - pick up a script as you walk into worship with the words for each reader highlighted
Help to leave the space better than we found it at the end of worship

Why the picture of the farm field? Generous and forward thinking visionaries believe Traverse City needs a progressive UCC Christian community and purchased land on the west side of town. Currently, we are evaluating potential uses for this property in line with our core mission, vision and values.
We do look forward to making connections in our community. We are forming small groups around mission and support.Use the "Contact Us" button below to let us know of a small group you would like to be a part of or a study you would like to do with others.
